M+ Museum, West Kowloon Cultural District | M+ Facade Presents Refik Anadol’s New Commissioned Work “Wind of Hong Kong” – Depicting Hong Kong’s Landscape Through Wind Data

Located in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District, M+, Asia’s global museum of contemporary visual culture, presents “Wind of Hong Kong” (2026), a new commissioned work for the M+ Facade by internationally renowned Turkish-American artist Refik Anadol. Utilizing publicly available wind and environmental data from Hong Kong, the work transforms one of the world’s largest media facades into a dynamic “data painting.” Sponsored by the leading Swiss wealth management group Julius Baer, “Wind of Hong Kong” will be displayed nightly on the M+ Facade from Wednesday, October 14, 2026, to Thursday, January 7, 2027.

“Wind of Hong Kong” is the latest installment in Anadol’s “Wind of…” series (2017–present), which treats data as a dynamic artistic medium beyond mere numbers and measurements. This captivating work traces seasonal patterns of Hong Kong’s weather and monsoons, revealing the evolving relationship between natural phenomena and the built environment, while reflecting on the role of technology in contemporary society.

Additionally, “Wind of Hong Kong” responds to growing societal concerns regarding the environmental impact of advanced technologies, including the massive energy demands of generative artificial intelligence. Amid persistent extreme heat and shifting climate patterns affecting daily life, Anadol’s work offers an alternative perspective for understanding environmental data. It invites viewers to consider how machine intelligence, guided by artistic intent, can reveal information beyond human visual perception.
